Divine Sea Queen

I was lucky enough to work with the official estate of legendary drag artist Divine after they saw my cartoon mash-up Pig Flamingos. We knew from the start that we wanted to reference Ursula from The Little Mermaid - after all, Divine did inspire the look of the character.

To get those tentacles flowing in a visually interesting and natural way, I actually mapped out with yarn on a piece of paper, and after about an hour of playing with shapes, I took a picture of the result and used that as a guide for my sketches.

This illustration was sold as a limited edition enamel pin on the official Divine online shop and on shoes, t-shirts, and hoodies via The Ave Los Angeles.
